How do I know that Jesus is holding my hand and guiding me?

My question is how do I know that I am being guided by God? I read my Bible daily and pray daily but sometimes it is hard to know whether God is with me. I have faith that he is but I have periods in my life when God feels far way from me. At that point how can I be sure that he is at the wheel of the boat guiding me through the storm? My depression is quite bad at the minute and made worse by the Coronavirus situation and being in lockdown. I try to keep going despite everything but it is hard. It can feel that my prayers are not being answered and that is had to deal with. How can I develop my prayer life and scripture reading and know that I am indeed being guided by God?
